Te Haka a Toi 2017

This years event will be held at the Queen Elizabeth II Youth Centre, Tauranga on Friday 25 August 2017 with a pōhiri on Thursday 24 August 2017 at 4pm.

Performers
There are 23 schools eligible to compete in the Secondary schools Kapa Haka regionals event from all Iwi Rohe of Mataatua & Tākitimu-ki-Tauranga – Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāti Pūkenga, Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Manawa, Ngāti Whare, Ngāi Tūhoe, Te Whakatohea, Te Whānau a Apanui and Ngāi Tai.

The performers are aged between Year 9 (12 years) and Year 13 (18 years) from secondary schools within the region. Groups may enter as competitive or non- competitive.

Audience
2000-3000 spectators across the day including volunteers and officials.

Official Pōhiri 
The pōhiri will take place on Thursday 24 August at 4pm where all schools will be welcomed into Tauranga Moana for the competition. All schools, principals, sponsors, local government councillors and strategic partners will be invited to attend.

A Full Day of Kapa Haka Performances
23 schools are eligible to participate in the Te Haka a Toi Competition whether competitive or non competitive.

Te Haka a Toi Village 
There will be food, promotional and craft stalls operating throughout the day.

VIP Lounge 
This year there will be designated areas in the complex for all our major sponsors where there will be somewhere to relax, eat and enjoy the competition. All Sponsors will also receive VIP parking and designated entry/ exit points.

Your tickets will be available for pick up on:

  • Thursday 24 August 1pm-5pm from the Admin Desk in the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre Foyer or
  • Friday 25 August from 8:00am at the main ticketing area at the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre
