This weekend, roller derby fans will be converging on Tauranga Moana at the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre for the first Roller Derby Tournament in Tauranga. Local league, Mount Militia Derby Crew and their two teams, B-Company and Atomic Bombs will be hosting teams from Christchurch, Timaru, Taupo, Auckland and beyond to face off in the War of the Wheels 2017 tournament.
The weekend’s schedule is divided into two pools. For the more experienced and higher ranked teams will be playing off against each other in Pool A, and less experienced teams will be placed in Pool B. An overall winner will be picked from each Pool which will be determined by the amount of wins each team is able to stack up over the weekend.
Battling it out in Pool A there is:
Mount Militia’s B Company, Pirate City Rollers’ Broadside Brawlers from Auckland, Dead End Derby’s Living Dead Rollers all the way from Christchurch, and last but not least the Sulphur City Steam Rollers from Rotorua.
In Pool B:
Mount Militia’s Atomic Bombs, Taupo’s Huka Dolls, the Timaru Derby Dames and the Space Invaders, who will be launching their first ever attack on Earth after gathering players from as far afield as Whakatane, New Plymouth and Christchurch.
Weekend pass is $25, day pass $15, entry after 5pm Saturday/1pm Sunday is $10 (last 2 games each day). Gold coin donation for kids.
